Children

Your child is a wonderful, creative, intelligent and insightful soul. Your child also might be going through something big and showing this through behaviors and expressions of emotions that are difficult to manage. I’ve worked with children through situations big and small to support them and the whole family. Providing your child with a space to feel heard and understood leads to growth and change.

Additionally, your wellbeing as a parent impacts your children, your child’s wellbeing impacts your family. Let’s work on this together.

Often the support of a therapist can help a child improve relationships and function better at home, with peers and at school. I also work to identify if additional resources could be helpful like individual therapy for parents, or referrals for psychological testing or a 504 or IEP at school.

The Children and Teens I see frequently show signs of:

  • Difficulties Focusing

  • Anxiety

  • Sadness or Depression

  • Separation Issues

  • Boundary Concerns

  • Impulsive Behaviors

  • Family transitions such as divorce or separation

  • Challenges in friendships

  • Low Self-Esteem

  • Trauma

  • Grief and Loss

Teens

Adolescents are growing up in a stress filled culture as much as we try to protect them. They’re smart and aware, seeking independence and challenging the rules. Family, peers, school and extra curricular activities all factor into their functioning. It is important for teens to develop skills to deal with stress and to learn and grow within a nurturing system of support to build healthy boundaries and self-esteem. To find their voices and express themselves in a way in which they feel heard, often they can benefit from the support of an adult who is outside their family.

Therapy with teens takes trust and understanding. It’s developmentally appropriate to make mistakes, to struggle and to explore and develop one’s identity. Frequently the perspective and behaviors of teenagers can be supported by the lens of a therapist, especially when the teenager can see the therapist and as trusted advocate. I serve to support both the teenager and the family, in order to encourage everyone to survive the teen years together.
